Applications Engineer

If we have your attention, then come to work for us as an Applications Engineer in our Applications and Systems Engineering team.

Spectrum Signal Processing designs and manufactures high-density processing subsystems based on heterogeneous processing technologies including Digital Signal Processors, Field Programmable Gate Arrays, next-generation General Purpose Processors, and high-capacity inter-processor communications fabrics. These systems are deployed in applications such as satellite base stations, software defined radios (SDRs), smart antennas, surveillance receivers and Radar/Sonar.

Based out of our Vancouver (Burnaby) B.C. location you will be responsible for delivering application based training here at Spectrum and at customer locations around the world. In addition, you will get a chance to provide advanced levels of technical support on Spectrum’s line of leading edge software defined radio products as well as developing applications for our communications products. The successful candidate will have strong communications skills, experience in embedded systems, and a desire to learn about a wide variety of technologies, products and applications.

This multi-faceted position requires a self-starter willing to work on a wide variety of tasks with customers, third-party suppliers and our own goal-oriented interactive team of professionals. This job is not for the average person, as it will test all of your knowledge and push you to the limits of your experience.

Required Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• 3+ years of wireless industrial experience
• Experience programming DSP, Microprocessor and FPGA based systems
• Real-time or Embedded Systems Engineering Experience
• Working knowledge of GUI and Driver-level Software
• Excellent English language communication skills (written and oral) is essential
• Excellent Presentation skills

Highly Desirable Skills and Knowledge

• Experience in C/C++ programming and an embedded operating system
• Experience in FPGA application development
• Desire to work with customers in an interactive team environment

Specialized Skills and Knowledge (considered as an asset)

• Knowledge of PCI, cPCI or VMEbus systems
• Experience with XST and Synplicity FPGA design tools
• Experience with Integrity, Linux or vxWorks operating systems

Education Required

• Electrical or Electronic Engineering Degree

The chosen candidate must be able to travel to the US and abroad, and must qualify to work in an environment governed by the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
