Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Located in Vancouver (Burnaby) B.C., Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima designs and manufactures high-density processing subsystems based on heterogeneous processing technologies including Digital Signal Processors, Field Programmable Gate Arrays, next-generation General Purpose Processors, and high-capacity inter-processor communications fabrics. These systems are typically deployed in applications such as satellite base stations, software defined radios (SDRs), smart antennas, surveillance receivers and Radar/Sonar.

We are seeking an experienced, energetic and talented individual to join our Hardware Engineering team as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer. As a hardware designer you will be responsible to participate in requirements specification, detailed design and implementation, verification, maintenance, and documentation of new and existing Spectrum products. You will be working in a cross-functional team, interacting closely with systems, digital and analog hardware, FPGA and software engineers.


Required Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in:
    • High-speed digital hardware design
    • Mixed signal and analog design
    • Multi-layer PCB design supervision
    • CPLD and FPGA design and simulation
  • In-depth knowledge of the digital signal processing chain
  • High-speed serial communications design
  • Good understanding of high-speed signal integrity
  • Component selection and schematic entry
  • Test-ware development, validation testing and reports
  • Design documentation
  • Solid understanding of hardware design methodologies, processes and best practices
  • Proven track record of delivering products from concept to production

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience with high performance Microprocessor or DSP based systems
  • Experience with large FPGA based systems
  • Knowledge of PCI, CompactPCI and Ethernet standards

Skills and Knowledge Considered an Asset:

  • Knowledge of ATCA, PCI Express or VME based systems
  • PCB layout experience using PADS
  • PCB crosstalk and signal integrity verification using HyperLynx
  • Compliance Certification Testing i.e. FCC, CE, UL
  • CPLD and FPGA design tools: Synplicity, ModelSim, Xilinx ISE, etc.
  • DDR or DDR2 memory interfaces

Education Required:

  • Electrical or Electronic Engineering Degree or equivalent

The chosen candidate must be able to travel to the US and abroad, and must qualify to work in an environment governed by the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
