[ Spectrum Signs $550,000 Contract for Delivery of SDR-4000 Platforms to International Defense Contractor ]

SDR-4000: rugged, small form factor SDR solution

Spectrum announced a $550,000 contract to supply rugged, small form factor Software Communications Architecture (SCA) enabled SDR-4000 platforms to an international defense contractor. Spectrum's equipment will be used in the system design and development (SDD) phase of a tactical military communications program. The contract for Spectrum's SDR-4000 follows a related design-in in 2003 for SDR-3000 systems used for initial software defined radio research.

Radio development incorporating Spectrum's SDR-4000 platform is expected to commence immediately to enable end customer demonstrations in late 2007. Eighteen months after successful demonstrations, the program is expected to enter the field trial phase. The goal of the program is to field a suite of tactical military radios. As such, this program represents a significant production opportunity for Spectrum.

[ Spectrum's flexComm Software Defined Radio Platform Selected for Cognitive Radio R&D ]

SDR-3000 SMRDP selected for Cognitive Radio R&D

Spectrum announced a $500,000 agreement with Motorola, Inc. to supply its flexComm™ software defined radio (SDR) platform for cognitive radio research and development. A cognitive radio is a type of software defined radio that is able to reconfigure its analog radio frequency (RF) output and incorporate "self-awareness" and knowledge of transmission protocols, etiquette and procedures. By sensing its RF environment and location, a cognitive radio is able to alter its power, frequency, modulation and other operating parameters so as to dynamically reuse whatever radio spectrum is available.

[ Aselsan Selects Spectrum's Platform for Software Communication Architecture Development ]

SDR-3002 IMRDP selected for SDR and SCA research and development

Aselsan will use Spectrum's flexComm™ SDR-3002 IMRDP platform for research and development of software defined radio (SDR) and Software Communications Architecture (SCA) technologies. Aselsan is the leading Turkish electronics company that designs, develops and manufactures modern electronic systems for the military and aerospace market.

The SDR-3002 IMRDP is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution specifically targeted at international military communications (MILCOM) programs. The platform provides a turnkey black-side "RF to Ethernet" processing system and includes sample application software supporting frequency agile operation, making the SDR-3002 IMRDP ideal for rapid-prototyping, development and deployment of both wide and narrowband waveforms.

[ Developing and Deploying SCA waveforms? Joint our tutorial at SDR Forum Technical Conference ]

For the uninitiated, developing waveforms to operate on a Software Communications Architecture (SCA)-enabled radio platform can be a daunting task, forcing the waveform development team to satisfy not only the functional requirements of the specified waveform, but also the deployment requirements imposed by the SCA software operating environment. Join us for a tutorial at Software Defined Radio Technical Conference and Product Exposition, November 13-17, 2006 in Orlando, FL that will explore these issues in detail. Participants will get a working knowledge of SCA based waveform development and view a number of tools that can accelerate the overall development effort.

Waveform Development and Deployment with the SCA
