Spectrum Announces 3U OpenVPX Solution for ISR and SDR Applications
The SDR-7001 is a Linux-based turnkey 3U OpenVPX platform for rapid application development and deployment.
Burnaby, BC (PRWEB) January 25, 2011
Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima today announced the SDR-7001, a fully integrated commercial-off-the-shelf hardware platform for high performance signal processing that is both 3U VPX (VITA 46) and OpenVPX (VITA 65) form factor compliant. The SDR-7001 simplifies the procurement process by integrating all necessary software, I/O and processing hardware into one box and provides full IF-to-Ethernet processing capability for applications such as Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT), Software Defined Radio (SDR), Military Communications (MILCOM), and Electronic Warfare (EW).
“3U OpenVPX is quickly becoming the standard form factor of choice for rugged high-performance embedded computing,” said Douglas Fast, President of Spectrum. “In a time when system integrators and prime contractors must respond quickly to new requirements, Spectrum is extremely excited to offer an integrated subsystem that allows them to rapidly develop and deploy their 3U OpenVPX application.”
The SDR-7001 provides rapid software portability from other Spectrum platforms, including Spectrum’s SDR-2010 PC-based platform, to rugged OpenVPX. This platform enables developers to use MATLAB and Simulink to develop their signal processing applications on GPP and FPGA processing elements. Spectrum’s quicComm™ Software Development Kit (SDK) simplifies communications between the different processing elements.
The SDR-7001 is based upon Spectrum’s flexComm™ family of processing and ADC/DAC modules. The system is available in air-cooled and conduction-cooled versions.
The SDR-7001 features the following:
- VPX-1131 3U VPX Dual 250 MSPS, 14-bit ADC and Virtex-5 FPGA Processing Module
- VPX-2131 3U VPX Dual 300 MSPS, 14-bit DAC and Virtex-5 FPGA Processing Module
- 3U VPX Single Board Computer based on Intel Core 2 Duo or Core i7 running Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- 3U VPX chassis and backplane are compliant with VITA 46 and OpenVPX (VITA 65), with 5 payload slots and power supply
The SDR-7001 can also be configured with Spectrum’s XMC and VPX modules including
- VPX-8311 Dual TI C6416 DSP
- VPX-1151 12-bit 3.2 GSPS ADC with Virtex-6 FPGA
- VPX-3321 Dual 14-bit 105 MSPS ADC, Dual 14-bit 300 MSPS DAC with Virtex-4 FPGA
Spectrum will be demonstrating the SDR-7001 at this year’s AFCEA West 2011 Exposition and IDGA’s Software Radio Communications Summit 2011.
